North America

Inspired by Iceland, a “public-private communication platform to promote Iceland and Icelandic products,” is inviting travelers and New Yorkers to come out to the Taste of Iceland Festival, Sept. 5–7.

The NYC-set cultural fest takes place across the city, with events occurring at AP Space, Perelman Performing Arts Center, Scandinavia House and other venues. Events focus on all things Iceland, including food and drinks, music, art, wellness, and more. Many of the events are free, though tickets are required and can be reserved at the above link.

What are some of the can’t-miss activities on the roster?

Join an Icelandic gastronomy demonstration and dining event led by Icelandic chefs, held at Platform by JBG in Pier 57’s Market Hall. Icelandic chefs will also, in collaboration with The James Beard Foundation, offer an Icelandic feast with a fixed-price menu featuring Icelandic cod, lamb and skyr, the next day in the same location.

Listen to some of Iceland’s most popular musicians at a free concert at Pianos. Take a mixology class with Reyka Vodka at The Ivory Peacock.

For something more wellness-focused or educational, attend a talk with famed Icelandic crime authors, an elemental sound bath session or an astronomer-led northern lights lecture.

Sail on a Recently Revamped Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship

At one point, the Royal Caribbean Oasis-class ships were the largest in the world. While that’s not the case any longer (other Royal Caribbean ships have surpassed them), these ships are still pretty impressive — and, with recent renovations, they’re becoming even more so, as can be seen with the revamped Allure of the Seas. Ready to set sail in April 2025 with a bevy of new features, the ship is getting a $100 million makeover.
