Destinations / North America

If you’re in full fall mode and looking for a destination to match your fall freak, you’re in luck. A recent study looked at destinations across the United States to determine which are coziest overall — and thus your best bet for a perfect fall getaway.

The study looked at factors like number of farmers markets, bookstores, pumpkin patches, cafés and coffee shops, as well as opportunities for leaf peeping at lakes and parks, while also taking into consideration the projected intensity of fall foliage. Of course, a rainy fall day is a cozy fall day, so the study likewise looked for destinations with more fall rainfall and cooler temps.

The results? Portland, Maine, was dubbed coziest fall destination in the United States, followed by Boston, Massachusetts; Minneapolis, Minnesota; Salt Lake City, Utah; Portland, Oregon; and Virginia Beach, Virginia. Portland, Maine, was the top overall city for the projected most colorful fall foliage, while Portland, Oregon, was named best destination for pumpkin patches. Minneapolis ranked well for cozy weather.

Other cities ranked well for bookstores, farmers markets and parks, as well as cozy weather, but didn’t manage to scratch the top five, including Providence, Rhode Island, and New York City.

The study was conducted by BetMGM.
