The food scene in New Jersey is not shabby, but if you’re hungry for something extra-special, you have options in the Garden State this summer, as three restaurants and chefs received James Beard nods this year.
Lita is a new Iberian restaurant in Aberdeen Township. The restaurant offers a three-course, fixed-price menu only, though diners do get a few choices for each course. Expect Spanish and Portuguese bites to start, followed by classic dishes like paella.
In Haddonfield, Gass & Main serves decidedly American eats with an upgrade in a relaxed setting. The menu includes options like deviled eggs made with smoked cheddar cheese, horseradish and smoked salmon roe, and duck wings with an orange glaze.
Then, in Jersey City, Korai Kitchen serves up halal Bangladeshi cuisine with dine-in experiences only offered on a limited basis on Friday and Saturday nights at 8 p.m. However, if you can get a seat, you’ll be rewarded with an eight-course meal that’s always different.
And, while you dine your way around New Jersey this season, don’t forget to check out the New Jersey Brews Trail. The trail pass just launched late last year and offers a free mobile guide to nearly 50 breweries scattered across the state.
