Looking for a great place to stargaze? Head to Oregon.

Central Oregon claims two International Dark-Sky Association-certified destinations: Sunriver and Prineville Reservoir State Park. Additionally, there are three other spots in Central Oregon actively pursuing International Dark-Sky Places certification: the City of Sisters, Black Butte Ranch and Pine Mountain Observatory. There’s also the largest International Dark Sky Sanctuary in the world in southeast Oregon, Oregon Outback International Dark Sky Sanctuary.

Not sure how to go about stargazing on your own? Oregon’s observatories can help. The central portion of the state is home to one of the largest concentrations of publicly accessible observatories in the country. Your options include not only the aforementioned Pine Mountain Observatory, but also Sunriver Nature Center and Observatory, Hopservatory at Worthy Brewing, Dee Wright Observatory and Asterisk Observatory.

If you want guidance but a more immersive experience than what you might get at an observatory, Oregon has you covered there, too. Bend’s Wanderlust Tours provide a wealth of stargazing tours year-round, and, if you’re lucky, you can still catch the Aug. 11 Perseids Meteor Shower Canoe Tour.

As you can see, you’re definitely not wanting for options.
