If you are hesitant to explore U.S. national parks for outdoor adventure this summer as less staffing and other issues could mean potentially greater danger for tourists — and because, yes, most parks experience some guest injury incidents each year, sometimes even fatalities — personal injury law firm Mallow Law Office can ease your worries. The law office crunched the numbers to identify the safest national parks in the country based on fatalities from 2014 to 2023. The results?

The top 10 safest national park properties, with options ranging from traditional national parks to historic sites, from Guam to St. Croix; Washington, D.C., to New York City, include:

  1. War in the Pacific National Historical Park, Guam
  2. Thomas Jefferson Memorial, Washington, D.C.
  3. Statue of Liberty National Monument, New York City
  4. Scotts Bluff National Monument, Nebraska
  5. Saratoga National Historical Park, New York
  6. San Juan Island National Historical Park, Puerto Rico
  7. Saint Croix Island International Historic Site, U.S. Virgin Islands
  8. Richmond National Battlefield Park, Virginia
  9. Piscataway Park, Maryland
  10. Petrified Forest National Park, Arizona

All of these parks reported only a single fatality since 2014. The deaths and their causes range, but include a drowning (emphasizing the need to be careful when visiting parks with water features) and deaths occurring due to preexisting conditions in elderly visitors.
