Destinations / Europe

End the holiday season and kick off the New Year with a trip to Athens. Two events give you plenty of reason to do so.

The first week of the month, Athen’s Epiphany Festival brings together traditional music, food and the blessing of the waters ritual that commemorates the baptism of Jesus. Attending this Jan. 6 holiday celebration not only wraps up your overall holiday season in a unique way but also provides a glimpse into the country’s historical religious and cultural heritage.

For something on the more modern side, attend the Suneos de Invierno Tango Marathon, which takes place over six days, Jan. 1–6, and features 40 hours of dancing and world-renowned DJs playing both classic and contemporary tango music.

All the while, stay at Brown Acropol hotel, located on Omonia Square. This property offers 165 guestrooms and suites in a Greek modernist setting designed in the 1970s. The hotel features an on-site restaurant and rooftop bar and restaurant, alongside rooftop hot tubs and a garden. In-room amenities include free WiFi, vinyl record players and in-room spa services by request.
