When it comes to budget travel and lodging, Wombat Hostel built its reputation on exposure to the masses by setting up shop in major European cities. Because of its popularity, presence and amenable rates, travelers of all ages flock to the bright yellow signs shining next to some of Europe’s most famous tourist attractions.
Wombat Hostel in Vienna, Austria, differs from other hostels because of its hotel-like ambiance upon entering. A large lobby with crowds surrounding the front desk emits anything but a friendly welcome. A quick check-in and run-down of hostel protocols, and you’re off to your room, WiFi password in hand.

One area in which Wombat excels is the cleanliness of the rooms. The six-bed-bunk room plus one ensuite bathroom were impeccably prepared. Each bed is equipped with a private electrical outlet, night light and a waist-high storage locker at the foot of the bed.
Anytime a hostel includes breakfast in its rental fee, it is a reason to take advantage. Breads, jams, muesli, fruit, coffee, tea and milk are more than enough to fuel a day of sightseeing. Toss in an extra bread roll in your bag for a mid-day snack.
Right outside the front door of Wombat Hostel Vienna is the city’s open-air nachstmarkt where you can find local wines, cheeses, fruits and other culinary delights. Walk approximately eight minutes east to Ringstrasse where Vienna’s central attractions, shops and the world’s best Wiener schnitzel can be found.
