Did you know rolling down a hill in a giant inflatable ball is actually a sport? It turns out it’s actually a pretty popular one in New Zealand.
Zorbing, as it’s known, involves barreling down a hill in a giant clear globe across a series of paths and occasionally obstacles. Sometimes there’s racing involved and other times it’s done just for the sheer fun of it.
ZORB New Zealand is one of the more popular outfits offering this unique experience. Based in Rotorua, the world’s leading ball rolling brand offers two different types of rides, wet and dry, with four different tracks and eight available variations. They also offer courtesy tops, shorts and towels for those willing to give it a whirl.
You can either run down the courses or just tumble and hope for the best, though staying on your feet might be the best way to avoid a concussion. It doesn’t matter when you’re visiting New Zealand either, because ZORB is open 365 days a year no matter the weather.
It’s pretty affordable, too, with prices ranging $26–90 depending on how much zorbing you’re wanting to partake in.
